Chris Chant to retire from G-Cloud
The director of the project and adamant supporter of cloud computing decides to pass on the leadership baton.
Chris Chant has decided to retire from his role as director of the Government’s G-Cloud project, it was confirmed today.
A man dedicated to getting out the message of what cloud computing could bring to the public sector - as well as determined to put it into practice - Chant took charge of the G-Cloud after the last general election, turning it from an idea within the Labour years to a reality in 2012.
His hard work paid off in February when the first iteration of the CloudStore was launched, providing Government departments with access to cloud applications from a central portal, saving money, deployment time and the restraints of long term contracts.
The second version of the CloudStore is due out in April, with Chant stepping down at the end of the month.
The Cabinet Office commented on his departure, saying: “Chris leaves Government ICT in a strong position and we wish him all the best in the future.”
Previous roles held by Chant include CIO at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA), as well as heading up IT at the Inland Revenue.
