Telco launches new service to help speed up mid-market cloud adoption

BT Engage IT has bolstered its Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) offering for UK businesses with the help of HP’s Converged Cloud platform.

The telco's new Managed Compute service is aimed at helping mid-market and enterprise firms speed up their migration to the cloud.

The service is powered by HP’s Cloud System technology, which provides BT Engage with a secure, partitioned and virtualised environment that can be used to automatically provision cloud services.

Meanwhile, the inclusion of HP 3PAR’s storage and thin provisioning software reportedly means BT Engage IT only pays for disk capacity as they use it.

Rich Lowe, chief executive of BT Engage IT, said the firm’s customers want solutions that will boost business agility and infrastructure service levels, while keeping costs down.

“The BT Managed Compute service allows us to deliver exactly this for our customer,”said Lowe.

“Our investment in HP CloudSystem, coupled with BT’s managed WAN capability, allows our customers to [use] the cloud in a controlled manner and meaningfully aggregate end-to-end service performance.”

Michael Clifford, cloud director of HP UK and Ireland, added: “HP and BT Engage IT have a long history of working together to drive the future of IT in the UK.

"Innovative technologies, proven expertise and a wide range of capabilities put HP and BT Engage IT in a position to lead tomorrow’s data transformations.”
