Software vendor Vision Solutions has marked an overhaul of its business model with the launch of a new cloud backup and recovery service.
The offering, named Cloud Protection & Recovery, is comprised of three elements: a Recovery-as-a-Service (RaaS) platform, metered usage and a software development kit.
The RaaS platform, which the company considers to be the most significant of the three, is based around Vision Solution’s flagship Double-Take data protection product.
Ian Masters, sales director for Northern Europe at Vision Solutions, told Cloud Pro: “We have been working with service providers already, but they have had to do quite a lot of the work themselves to get Double-Take working with their cloud management systems, or the process has had to remain fairly manual.
“We wanted to give service providers a fully integrated solution that meant they could deliver a valuable service to the market much quicker, which would also benefit end customers as they could now self provision their own recovery centres.”
The platform uses the standard Double Take and only runs on Apache CloudStack or Citrix CloudPlatform at the moment.
“We are seeing an increase in the amount of CloudStack and CloudPlatform in the market and ... [we think] this is going to become one of the industry standard platforms, although we do have a roadmap to take these products to market for other cloud platforms,” explained Masters.
The introduction of Cloud Protection & Recovery comes as part of a wider shakeup of the company’s business strategy.
“Our strategy for this year is built into three categories – cloud protection and recovery, high availability and disaster recovery, and migration,” said Masters
“We are making sure we have a go-to-market strategy for 2013 that really helps customers and partners alike understand what it is that we can do and what we can offer, so this is just the first of a number of announcements you will see this year,” he concluded.
