Barracuda hopes to take a deep bite into the private and hybrid cloud data replication deployment market

Barracuda Networks has become the latest company to enhance its back-up services using the cloud, launching a site-to-site replication capability.

The new service means companies can back-up their data both locally and off-site without the hassle of tapes and other removable media. It allows customers to deploy a private cloud by one Barracuda Back-up Server to replicate data to one or more of the provider’s other servers, housed locally or deployed at other locations for disaster recovery.

Barracuda vice president of product management Stephen Pao said many organisations still preferred to use internal company locations as the first line of defence for disaster recovery.

“Site-to-site replication enables those organisations to redundantly back-up their data to their preferred locations while also allowing economical cloud-based data protection where appropriate,” he said.

The release means Barracuda can expand the market for its back-up server to include customers interested in private and hybrid data replication deployments.
