Cloud Storage

Storage of data in the cloud is provided as part of Infrastructure-as-a-Service. It involves the storage of information on any number of virtual servers, by a third party (a cloud provider) rather than on servers owned and maintained by an enterprise itself. Storage of data in the cloud has several advantages including scalable access, back-up and universal access. However there are also often quoted risks, including regulatory compliance, not knowing where data is stored and the uncertainty of the long-term viability of your provider.
