Accellion launches kitedrive Sync its 'Dropbox for the enterprise'
Secure data transfer specialist Accellion's new offering provides mobile syncing with extra security controls
Accellion today announced a new service named kitedrive Sync, to enable businesses to use consumer-type cloud storage with enterprise level security.
Referring to it as ‘Dropbox for enterprise,’ the firm claims the service enables customers to sync all of their files to the cloud simply and makes them accessible from mobile devices on the move. However, it has added extra security levels to remove the risks ride in similar consumer offerings.
The kitedrive Sync offering forms part of Accellion’s Secure Mobile File Sharing suite and includes the ability to sync from mobiles - including iOS, Android and BlackBerry devices - laptops and PCs, and track changes or deleted versions, alongside activity logs for administrators and single sign-on security.
“The influx of personal smartphones and tablets into enterprise organisations is threatening information security as IT and security teams scramble to address BYOD and mobile security,” said Yorgen Edholm, chief executive (CEO) of Accellion.
“Balancing employee demand for increased mobile access while ensuring enterprise-class security and control is now possible with Accellion Secure Mobile File Sharing Solutions.”
The offering has gained the support of analyst firm The 451 Group, with Chris Hazelton, research director of mobile and wireless, saying it gives businesses the assurance they need to take advantage of cloud storage and syncing.
“There are real security concerns with the use of free mobile file-sharing and synchronisation platforms by business users who need anytime access to enterprise data,” he said.
“In place of consumer-based offerings, IT needs to provide alternatives that offer control and management capabilities to protect confidential information. Providing these enterprise-grade services to government and business users, especially those in regulated industries, will ensure much-needed awareness and control of corporate data that moves across the multiple devices that employees use today.”
Accellion offers three packages for kitedrive Sync. The individual offering secures a single user with 2GB of free cloud storage, the business solution ramps it up to between five and 5000 users with 1,000GB of cloud storage and the enterprise options raises it further to over 500 users with unlimited cloud storage and the options of integration with private and hybrid cloud offerings, as well as public, or the additions of archiving and DLP integration.
