The managed cloud service provider has unveiled a new cloud storage offering running EMC Atmos cloud

Managed cloud service provider Navisite has taken the wraps off its new storage service aimed at enterprises looking to store manage and protect distributed, unstructured content.

Dubbed NaviCloud Intelligent Storage (NCIS), the company claims this secure, managed service complements existing storage and retention requirements while also addressing several new business needs, particularly around mobility and on-demand access.

The new solution, demonstrated at the Interop conference in Las Vegas, runs on the EMC Atmos cloud platform and offers scalable, pay-per-use cloud storage that customers may scale up or down as and when needed. It also features mobile file share and endpoint backup, archival storage and recovery in addition to a network attached storage extension enabling organisations to archive existing file systems in a manner that provides greater longevity for legacy system.

Storage represented an average of 15 cent of total IT budgets in 2011, according a report by analyst firm Forrester Research. Organisations must look at all options before making huge investments in such a costly infrastructure, the report claimed. Furthermore, it highlighted the fact that cloud storage had now become a "viable enterprise option."

Chris Patterson, product manager at NaviSite, said the new cloud storage service was a "cornerstone to providing our customers with scalable and secure mobile cloud storage, big data archival, and business continuity and disaster recovery solutions.”
