Intel would like its microprocessors to be in every cloud-linked server in the world so it has been working hard to optimise them for cloud applications and services. Its Xeon E5-2600 family is aimed at cloud data centres.

The chip giant positions itself as something of a guru regarding the cloud, running a Cloud Builders programme with partner companies, offering advice to user organisations on how to build one.
