EMC
Storage behemoth EMC provides a lot of products used in cloud environments. It launched a cloud service of its own in 2009 but shut it down a year later to avoid competing with its partners. That doesn't mean it's turned its back on the cloud - as a slew of acquisitions and partnerships in the space should prove.
A deal with VMware and French data centre company Atos sees the US giant provide much of the backend for European cloud venture Canopy. EMC's strengths are seen to be in shared storage platforms, back-up and archive solutions and disaster recovery.
