Joyent

Founded in 2004 and headquartered in San Fransisco, Joyent is a software, virtualisation and IT services company specialising in the cloud.  It offers Infrastructure-as-a-Service and Platform-as-a-Service for large online clients, including social networking site LinkedIn (it was also the original host of Twitter). Joyent is also very active in the online gaming industry. Joyent licenses its cloud software, SmartDataCenter, to cloud service providers like Dell. The company has developed a complete software stack on which it runs a major public cloud.
