Tech firms unite for new cloud-based video and comms venture

Meetrix and Polycom have joined forces to offer customers cloud-delivered social video collaboration services.

The partnership mashes Meetrix's unified communications cloud service for IBM Sametime with Polycom's video infrastructure software to help customers securely and reliably connect, communicate, and collaborate visually using a cloud-delivered social business app.

Meetrix UC in the Cloud for IBM Sametime provides users with access to Big Blue's offering as a service.

The offering can be deployed in hours for SMBs or, in the case of larger enterprises, a few days.

The Polycom RealPresence Platform will allow IBM Sametime and IBM Connections users to collaborate in secure multi-party or point-to-point video calls. The RealPresence Platform software infrastructure, whether installed on-premise or delivered as a service from the cloud, connects users across any environment, such as video suites and conference rooms.

Steve Pattison, vice president of business development at Polycom, said the technology tie-up will allow users to keep “upfront costs down, leverage their existing investments, and quickly realise a return on their investment from the increased productivity of face-to-face collaboration."

The offering is available globally for existing Polycom RealPresence Platform and Meetrix UC in the Cloud for IBM Sametime customers at no additional integration or application cost.
