CSC hopes to accelerate core data services platform

CSC has bought big data Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) provider Infochimps for an undisclosed sum.

The deal means that the systems integrator gets its hands on Infochimps' team of big data and analytics engineers in a bid to bolster its data services platform and help the firm scale up its big data business to offer customers 'as-a-service' access to advanced data analytics.

The deal will also mean that Infochimps will be able to call on  the talents of CSC's  employees and gain access to CSC's industrialised global sales, marketing, delivery and solution development team. The firm will continue to provide its services as a standalone offering.

Infochimps will be integrated with CSC's big data and analytics business unit, led by CSC vice president and general manager Sashi Reddi.

"This acquisition aligns directly with CSC's focus on next-generation technology solutions and services," said Reddi.

"Infochimps' expertise in building industrial-strength data platforms on open source technologies will advance CSC's big data capabilities significantly," he added.

"CSC's customers are looking for both deep analytics and real-time correlation through a pre-integrated cloud platform," said Dan Hushon, CSC's chief technology officer.

"The joint CSC-Infochimps capabilities give our customers the ability to provision their analytic platform, point their data streams and deliver new industry insights," Hushon said.

The Infochimps  deal marks  the second acquisition of a big data company by CSC. In October, CSC bought 42Six Solutions, a big data processing and analytics software development company.
